The St. Regis Bal Harbour, Miami Beach

St Regis, Bal Harbour, MiamiThe last three days at the St. Regis Bal Harbour, have felt like a week, which is always a good sign at the end of a long weekend break.

The St. Regis Bal Harbour is a quiet retreat on the northern tip of the Miami Beach barrier island. The hotel is super stylish. As you enter you walk through a mirrored entrance which is super opulent and sets the scene for the rest of the hotel.

Then the lift zooms you to your floor (no number needed as your key tells the lift). Our room was beautiful with marble floors, a massive bed and stunning views of the beach. This is the type of place you hit the bed and literally sink in to the massive plumped pillows and luxe sheets.

The lift also takes you downstairs to the gym (of mammoth proportions) and the two stunning outside swimming pools which have mega size and comfy sun loungers. And if you want to venture out – the beach with its azure blue sea and white sands is right there.

This is the perfect hideaway from the 24 hour lifestyle of South Beach where you can relax in style. And to make it even more perfect if you want to party South Beach style, it’s only a short cab ride away.

Top tip – head to the St. Regis Bar & Wine Vault where they have 4 different types of Bloody Mary (my kind of place!).

The Dutch, W South Beach, Miami

The Dutch, W South Beach, MiamiIf you are hanging out in Miami Beach this weekend, drop by The Dutch for some easy American fare and cool dining. Created by New York’s Andrew Carmellini, Josh Pickard and Luke Ostrom (of The Dutch NYC fame) and long-time Miami locals Karim Masri and Nicola Siervo, the restaurant is housed in the ever-hip W South Beach.

The Dutch, W South Beach, MiamiOn our visit we had oysters and the corvina ceviche with celery and fresno chili which was a fave dish. And it goes without saying we enjoyed some great cocktails. For some reason Whiskey Sours – they were good.

The space was designed by the Meyer Davis studio, known for creating epic spaces for Oscar de la Renta’s boutiques and fine dining establishments such as Nobu South Hampton.

Top tip – after dinner take your drinks out to the pool to chill out.

Fendi Design Performance at Design Miami

This week marks the opening of Design Miami/, a highlight of the design calendar which take place alongside the Art Basel Miami Beach art fair.

Renowned as the global forum for design, Design Miami/ is where collectors, curators and designers meet to celebrate design and view the best modern and contemporary pieces from galleries around the world.

The event also boasts an extensive cultural programme which includes collaborations with designers and design institutions  and lectures from top names from the worlds of design, architecture, art and fashion.

This year a special design performance entitled ‘Craft Alchemy’ will take place. Led by the luxury fashion house Fendi, designer Elisa Strozyk and artist Sebastian Neeb will take pieces of antique furniture from the 18th century and magically transform them with Fendi’s discarded leather materials. The pair will work throughout the fair to create these new design masterpieces by embossing, sewing, braiding and working with the leather. Visit to see this incredible process take place.

Design Miami runs from 30 November to 4 December 2011. For more information visit Design Miami/2011 or their blog Design Miami /2011 Blog.
