This weekend marks an exciting time for the art world, as New York sees the first Frieze Art Fair taking place at Randall’s Island Park, Manhattan from 4-7 May 2o12. The event will be housed in a bespoke structure designed by New York-based SO – IL Architects overlooking the East River.
The fair will feature 180 of the most exciting international contemporary galleries working today including the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, Sadie Coles HQ, Gagosian Gallery, Hauser & Wirth, Lehmann Maupin Gallery and David Zwirner. Plus there is also the Frame section of the show which includes galleries established less than six years ago.
Frieze are also bringing stateside the successful Sculpture Park which will include work by international sculptors such as Ernesto Neto, Tomás Saraceno, Cerith Wyn Evans, Louise Bourgeois, Subodh Gupta and Jaume Plensa.
Inspired by Frieze there will be events hosted across the city. The fun begins with the MoMA PS1 Frieze New York Kick Off Party on 2 May 2012, with music by Martha Wainwright and a DJ set by Mark Ronson. Tickets are on sale at MoMA PS1.
On Saturday 5th May there will be the Party on 26th Street where selected Chelsea galleries will open their doors until 8pm and there will be music from DJ Hannah Bronfman and the Brooklyn band Dreamshow until 9pm. Plus food trucks will be there to feed you!
And on Sunday Frieze Downtown will conclude the weekend with galleries opening late, events and talks.
