Today was a historic day in New York, as the Space Shuttle Enterprise made its final journey to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on the Hudson River in Manhattan.
The Space Shuttle Enterprise was the first ever built for NASA and was finished on 17 September 1976 (13 days before I was born!). It’s purpose was as a test flight vehicle and as such it never actually went in to space.
However it played a huge role in the history of the USA and space travel. And what a site to see it fly over Manhattan today before it landed at JFK.
The Space Shuttle Enterprise will go on display at the Intrepid Museum from 19 July 2012.
