Everyone who knows London, recognises Sketch is the establishment of cool. It’s a place to hang out for delicious cocktails, to dine in the amazing Gallery restaurant or eat cake and coffee with friends. Most of all it’s a place where design / art / food go hand in hand happily. So it’s no surprise that this iconic destination, created in 2002 by Mourad Mazouz is celebrating it’s 10 birthday in style.
To do this, Sketch has teamed up with artist and Turner-prize winner, Martin Creed to create an extremely cool art installation. In essence, Martin Creed has taken the Gallery restaurant space and created a functional yet decorative installation. These latest works are titled No 1347 and No. 1343.
In the gallery space, large-scale colourful paint patterns adorn the walls, which vibrate and dominate the room. There is an incredible marble floor with every type of available marble included (96) – to create an even more visual effect.
Then there is the furniture and restaurant necessities, which have been chosen to ensure every object is different. So each plate, glass, spoon etc has an individual design with a mixture of mass-produced and handcrafted, modern and antique items. An example of the chairs include these exceptional designs by Ligne Roset.
