Topshop Unique at London Fashion Week 2014

Yesterday was all about Topshop Unique Autumn Winter show at London Fashion Week 2014 held in the prestigious and very cool Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, London. An incredible venue choice aside, lets talk the fashion highlights.

First up, was the royal blue numbers including these textured soft layered angular looks. I loved this swing coat, the different woollen textures and the intense blues contrasted against each other.

The eye was in the detail with these warm golden looks showing embellishment and pattern. There was also a focus on lace as a skirt accent. And belts were big across the collection.

And finally the focus on lemon and fur. These softer looks showed the fur finishes contrasted against each other to create texture and interest.

Hello Hunter Boots

Being back in London is great, apart from the daily rain. So I have decided it’s time to get myself some Hunter boots. And just in time, for this weekend saw the launch of the first Autumn / Winter 2014 Hunter Original collection at London Fashion Week under the creative direction of Alasdhair Willis.

The show was impressive with a dark tree lined runway of water for the models to splash through. The collection was heavily based on the Hunter heritage with green hunter boots with twists of new colours and lengths like the ankle scraper. But even more exciting was the new line of outerwear including the a number of cool remakes of the old cagoule and a stylish selection of duffle, parka and puffa coats.

And for now lets settle on their new spring / summer collection which features some fabulous brights, stripes and colour blocking style boots. The collection is titled ‘Another Wet Summer’. Please lets hope not.

Hello, is it me your looking for?

So as a ‘quick recap’ in the last 6 months I have headed back to London and had a fabulous baby boy. Life has been good. But it’s time to get this blog show back on the road. As there is only so much scruffy mummy I can stand, so lets let the style back in.

So expect me back from now on. Yay!

Hanging out at the Rain Room, MoMA

Yesterday was all about MoMA and their free Friday nights and especially the Rain Room by Random International, which is incredible!

Rain Room, MoMA, NYC

The Rain Room is housed in a massive temporary structure with water pouring from the ceiling. And the good news? It’s digitally controlled so the rain detects your body movement as you walk underneath so it stops raining where you are standing.

So you can literally stand in the middle and enjoy the loud tropical like shower of water around you. Love it!

Don’t rain on my parade and all that!

P.s. The Rain Room is situated as a outside structure next to MoMA. Enter on 54th street.

Fire Island Love

SO yesterday we went to Fire Island. And I fell in love with this chilled out hippy like place. So now I want to live there. These are the reasons why:

1. It only takes just over an hour on the train to get there from Manhattan. So even if you don’t live there all summer long, it’s easily a day trip with a sun umbrella.

Train to Fire Island

2. You get a ferry to the island (why does getting a boat always make it more of an adventure!)

3. You could live on a lane like this! Note the no cars (there are no roads on the island).

4. You can cycle everywhere and carry your shopping. Although as we found out you can’t cycle between towns due to the sandy paths. Use the water taxi’s for this.

Bikes on Fire Island

5. You have to get a cart to carry your luggage (no cars remember!)

6. There are loads of wild deer hanging around.

6. The beaches look like this.

7. The food was delicious. Especially the seafood options – think lobster/oysters galore. We were lucky and found this yummy BBQ July 4th special.

8. The sun shines all summer long. And planes write things in the sky.

This seems the perfect summer retreat to me. What is not to like! Get there now.

P.s. We got the train from Penn Station to Bay Shore to get to Oecan Beach. But you can also go to other stations to get various ferries. The ferry takes about 30 mins.
